MVR Dev

Heyyy yall Ace back with another one. Today I have my first Baltimore Maryland artist on here. He from the West Side, yall know they say the west the best side. Let's see what the hype bout' I'm ready to get into it. Yall know the drill I got the ice and drinks bring me some papers. We live now.

Wassam tell the people who are you. I've already told them a little bit of where you from.

I am “MVR Dev” I come from the westside of Baltimore City it can be rough here at times, but that’s what helped build my character and mold me to what I am now as an artist/person today.

I love the west. It can get rough sometimes but for the most part is a decent area. Where did your name come from?

The name “MVR Dev” came from me just wanting to be the best at what I do just like anyone else. When I think of someone as being the best I personally think of “MVP” which stands for “Most Valuable Player”. So, I just took out the “P” and put the “R” to stand for “Most Valuable Rapper”.

I like that, I like that. That's cool. How did you get into the music scene?

I really wasn’t into the music scene at first, I used to just write little stories in school starting in second grade and having teachers read them and tell me what they think. After a while It started growing into poetry and I did this all the way until about 4th-5th grade. Eventually I started makin little raps and showin my uncle, but I wasn’t even listening to Baltimore artist I didn’t even know Baltimore had rappers and singers to be honest until I was introduced to “Tadoe” when his song dropped called “Y.S.N”. So, I started making more raps because of “Tadoe” and didn’t stop since.

Would you make this a career?

It would be nice to have music as my official career, but the industry makes the realist people turn into something they aren’t. I personally make music to help me and others cope through life and it’s helped me drastically. I wouldn’t mind just being a well-known underground/underrated rapper in my city because as long as I got my city on my back, I feel like I won. This rap game isn’t always sunshine and rainbows it comes with haters and critics that don’t know your full story but will talk like they do. Reason why I would just want my city to support and love me because if I got my city rocking with me then I could have a career in the music industry.

I can definitely agree with you on that. I try to tell people the industry is not what it looks like. Everything is all for an image. SOME labels only want you for an image so you have to make your own money in case it doesn't work out. Or become their puppet. So, tell me what made you take it seriously?

My uncle John was the only person in my family that knew I rapped besides my friends at school and everything. He always had told me “You won’t be great at what you do until you practice and perfect it” because I wasn’t nice or as good as I am now when I first started rapping even with the stories and poems. Nobody really starts of good at what they do but people can see your potential. That’s what my uncle was basically telling me if rap is something I really wanted to do then pursue it. After his death I promised him, I will never stop reason why I don’t care if I make it in the industry even more than I do now.

That's amazing. You're really going for him, not just yourself. If it’s one thing you could change in this industry, what would it be?

The artist/sound of music. I feel as though the sound of music has changed so much and that is the reason everyone keeps saying “music sounds the same”. Everyone wants to be “gangster” or labeled as a “real one” because of the sound of music and what the message is when u don’t have to change ya sound, who you are or even your craft to be called or recognized as a “real one”. I feel as though originality is running low everywhere and not just Baltimore. Many rappers and singers who found and stuck to their sound has now made a name for themselves and went somewhere without having to switch up what they know was right for them.

How is the music scene in your city? Anything different compared to other places you’ve been or seen?

The music scene in Baltimore is very diverse you can find any genre of music you’re looking for. Baltimore is so overlooked no one somewhere else would really know about it, but if you know then you know that Baltimore is lit and very different with our culture of music and more. Personally, the music here isn’t really different from too many places with the music. Like I said it’s more diverse than a lot of places I will say because I’m from here so I would know.

That's what I love about Bmore. That's why I decided to move here forreal, for the music scene. I feel like with the right people shining light on Bmore in a positive way it could really help. Who is your top artist right now?

I don’t really ever just have one artist I’m feeling because I listen to a lot of music from my city, and I then came across a many of talented artist so it’s hard to honestly say. But as of right now who I been listening to a lot lately will have to be myself (MVR Dev), “Haizi”, “MG Shorty”, & as a honorable mention “Baltimore Bella”.

Has music changed your life? If so, how?

Yes, Music has changed my life in many aspects. How I think, how I move, & just how I carry myself and others. Honestly if it wasn’t for music I wouldn’t even be here today. Being in the studio keeps me off the streets and it brings me positivity when needed. I genuinely just love the music and how it makes me feel when I get to express what’s really on my mind. It’s not about money or being famous for me I just want a name for what I love to do and have a passion for and die a legend for it.

What do you do outside of the music scene?

I actually been getting into a lot of the videography and photography scene only because of my guy “Thirdeye T”. I also draw from time to time like graffiti, or anime characters, etc… people at a point of time were actually wanting me to start doing tattoos because I was so good. I only drew because of my two older brothers though, plus I didn’t trust myself on people skin. I also engineer my own music as well as other artists you might’ve heard of or listen to.

Really? Your talented as hell. Thats's great. What would you tell your younger self?

“Keep business strictly business and personal thing’s personal”. Meaning I lost a lot of so called “friends” because I stopped doing certain things when my business started actually having clientele. When really just because we are “friends” doesn’t mean you don’t have to pay me or I gotta give you a discount. In reality if we were real “friends” like they try to say we were they wouldn’t mind supporting my business period. That goes for anybody and what business they want to have in life, because these people will mess up y’all bond or business because they wanted to get personal with your business.

I definitely agree!!! What's something people don’t know about you.

I listen to heavy metal, I used to want to be a dancer, I never had a yearlong relationship barely even six months.

Wow I would have never guessed. And honestly forreal? You look like a lover boy. Are you dropping anything soon?

I’m dropping a new single tonight (October 14th, 2023) @12 called “Drunk Nights”. After that I will be dropping another single called “Rapper Boy” On November 1st, 2023 @12. I might drop a mixtape on my birthday this year as well, but it’s not definite thing yet. I do know the next time I’m dropping another actual album will be in 2025 on Thanksgiving Day called “Dinners Ready”.
