Heyyyyy yall Ace back with another one. Today we have SSD Kay with us from Richmond. Yall know how this goes, Ace got the drinks and iceeeeee yall bring the smoke.

Who are you? Tell us where you from.

I go by the name of “SSD Kay”, I’m from the southside of Richmond, VA , Broad Rock to be exact. Originally born in Newport News, I moved to the city when I was just 6.

How did you get into the music scene?

I’ve always been a writer honestly, growing up I used to write stories and poetry and as time progressed my poetry turned into music as a way of venting when I felt like I had nobody to truly turn to. My father was like my best friend, and he got locked up right before I started 7th grade, I’ve been making music since 8th grade so I’d say that’s one of my driving forces because of the pain I was feeling but couldn’t properly express.

Would you make this a career?

I’d love to make music into my profession, and I plan on pursuing, but I feel as though I’m the one who’s standing in the way of my own success. Still learning to say fuck opinions somebody gonna feel it kuz I speak the real in this world.

What made you take it seriously?

I don’t believe I’ve ever taken it completely seriously yet and that’s part of my problem, everybody around me encourages me to stay consistent and watch things taken naturally so I’m planning and plotting my comeback and official entrance into the music industry.

If it’s one thing you could change in this, what would it be?

I personally feel like the rap game and music in general is too oversaturated and has been for a number of years. It's harder to get that push and eyes on you unless you have a marketing plan for a project because the market is being filled with good but mainly bad music as more people find it easier to attempt a rap career.

How is the music scene in your city? Anything different compared to other places you’ve been or seen?

Music in my city gets completely overlooked but I feel that’s the entire Va. most people aren’t tapped in and think the whole state is country land so it’s harder getting into the door coming from here, especially with a lot of people stuck in this crab in a bucket mentality. Too much beef in the city to takeover and every time we have an artist go up something bad happens. If we want the city to win we gotta realize we’re better and bigger in numbers but until then it’s a parade inside my city on the regular. We got our own lane when it comes to music but everybody starting to sound the same.

Who is your top artist right now?

My Top 3 Artist are always going to be Tupac, Boosie Badazz, and YB nobody can touch what they did and continue to do in the south.

Has music changed your life? If so, how?

Music has allowed me to meet and work with people on a certain level and be in certain places I wouldn’t find myself regularly. From events, to showcases, to networking you just really see how much work goes on behind the scenes and how much effort and dedication it takes to get what you want. Created a positive outlet for me to vent no matter how crazy I’m talking on a track because that’s me releasing energy pinned up

What do you do outside of the music scene?

I got multiple hustle always have to the mindset to have more than one stream of income. I do clothing design and plan on releasing a collection soon, I trade crypto and the foreign exchange market as I self-taught myself everything I need to know, I’m taking courses to get certifications in cloud computing and IT, and I do a couple more things on the side I can’t really get into lol.

What would you tell your younger self?

Stay consistent and fuxk what anybody say you the goat.

Something people don’t know about you.

I love doing white people shit lol, God get me rich and I’m hiking mountains and learning how to snow board. I learned in life you have a live a little because too many of my people couldn’t even see nothing more than their own city, Tryna show my n*ggas a different scene to life it was meant to be enjoyed.

You dropping anything soon?

Plan on dropping my first mixtape this June finally returning to music after a little hiatus. In the meanwhile, I should be dropping two singles in may so be on the lookout for the takeover.
